Strep Pharyngitis

Jackson, my healthy little monster, has strep throat.  Monday, when we picked him up from daycare (TJ and I went to Schlitterbahn for the day), he was crying and just wanted Mommy.  Finally we coaxed it out of him that he did not feel well.  He came home, napped, watched a movie, then went to bed.  Not a typical evening for the usually rambunctious young man.  We even went and got Dairy Queen ice cream, and he only ate 4 bites.  I was figuring heat exhaustion, but when he woke up on Tuesday with a fever of 101 and would not get out of bed, I called Dr. Veligati right away.  TJ took him to the office and I met them down there on my morning break.  Rapid strep positive.  I went back to work, and Jax and Dad picked up a prescription for amoxicillin and then went home.  He was good most of the day, just lounging, but when I got home at about 4pm, he got kind of lethargic, and by 6pm his fever was up to almost 104, and I was resorting to cool baths and wet washcloths on his neck and back.  Poor baby just wanted to sleep and would hardly drink or eat anything.  Got the fever down to about 101 by bedtime.

On Wednesday morning, he was definitely feeling better, and even had some breakfast-1 PB&J waffle.
I had my phone when Cole and I came downstairs on Wednesday morning, but then could not find it the rest of the day.  I was searching frantically for over 30 minutes, when I finally heard it vibrating in the basement-but it sounded like it was above me.  Up and down the stairs we went. I could not even hear it upstairs, but it definitely was not downstairs.  Last ditch effort, I looked in the dishwasher (which I had already done once), and there it was, in the utensil compartment.  Cole apparently thought it needed cleaned.
By Wednesday evening, Jax' fever was above 103 again, and by the time Mom and Dad got home from KC, Jax was lying in bed, lethargic, not wanting to do anything but sleep.  I finally talked him into a cool shower, and after that, since he had not eaten any dinner, he ate 3 plain waffles, drank lots, and went to bed.

Thursday morning, feeling better once again, Jax had breakfast and we were hopeful about a trip to the park.  by 2 pm, he was lethargic again, and his fever was back up to almost 104.  And he was having epithelial sloughing of his upper inner eyelid (apparently part of the viral eye infection). It was gross.  Wrapped in a cold, wet towel for about ten minutes, and we were back in business, and he was willing to eat a little for me.  We were able to keep the fever down the rest of the day, and so far we are just amazed Cole has not come down with this.  Praying that he doesn't.

Friday morning, fever only about 102, but eye looks better, and he feels better.  Hopefully we are on the mend.

One day this week (they are kind of running together), Jax asked Cole if he liked the Missouri Tigers, and when Cole shook his head "No", Jackson yelled "Dad, we need a different baby.  Cole doesn't like the Tigers".  It was too funny.

Cole is making kissy noises now, and I think he is saying "Down" (for downstairs).

Only one more week until TJ and I are at the lake with Heeren's and Brown's.  The boys will be staying at Nana and Papa's.  I am looking forward to it so much.

When one of my little guys is not feeling well, it makes me think how much I would do for them, and how much it physically hurts me to see one of them in pain.  This week has been no different.  The following song reminds me of what I would do to ensure that my children know how much I love them.

To Make You Feel My Love

"When the rain
Is blowing in your face
And the whole world
Is on your case
I could offer you
A warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/adele/make_you_feel_my_love.html ]
I know you
Haven't made
Your mind up yet
But I would never
Do you wrong
I've known it
From the moment
That we met
No doubt in my mind
Where you belong

I'd go hungry
I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling
Down the avenue
No, there's nothing
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging
On the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
Though winds of change
Are throwing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing
Like me yet

I could make you happy
Make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends
Of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love"
